William Richard Linton was born 26 Feb 1848/1849 in Franklin County, Ohio. He is the son of Elizabeth A. Cassingham and Dutton Linton. He died 26 Jul 1913 at the age of 65 in Lancaster, Grant, Wisconsin.

On 3 Jan 1875, he married Sarah Jane Hinton in Woodman County, Wisconsin. She was born 8 Nov 1853 in North Hamptonshire, England. She died 8 Mar 1881 at the age of 27 in Lancaster, Grant, Wisconsin.

In the 1880 Census John is listed as John Chapman with his relationship to William Linton listed as "Other". Perhaps he is not a descendant of William Linton at all.
