Ray Sutton Obituary

Ray Sutton, 85, Eileen, died Friday in the Morris Hospital.

He was born April 21, 1895 in Kankakee a son of the late John and Eva (Foster) Sutton.

Educated in rural Grundy County Schools, he was a rural mail carrier out of Mazon for 37 years, retiring in 1957. In World War I he served with the Army in France.

On June 3, 1920, he married Ida Southcombe in Morris. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coal City, Mazon Masonic Lodge AF & AM 826, Bloomington Consistory, Kellogg Chapter OES and the Rural Letter Carriers Association of Grundy County and National.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Lee (Mary) Provance of Morris, and Mrs. Richard (Jennie) Potts of Coal City; two sons, William of Fontana, Calif. and Robert of Cape Coral, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John (Elsie) Henderson of Mazon.

He was preceded in death by a son Edwin, in 1951, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Davis Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

The Rev. Virgil Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery.

Preferred forms of remembrance are memorials to the Coal City United Church or the Coal City Emergency Squad.

Masonic rites will be at 7:30 p.m. today.
