Howard Mason Ward is the son of Nettie Elizabeth Cassingham and John Guinn Ward. Dan, as he was known, was born 15 May 1912 in Keytesville, Chariton, Missouri. He died 29 Feb 1968 at age 55 in Duncanville, Dallas, Texas and was buried 2 Mar 1968 at Laurel Lane Memorial Park, Dallas, Dallas, Texas.

On 17 Aug 1940, he married Verlee Schoellerman in Chicago, Cook, Illinois.
