On 14 Feb 1910, she married Edward Abraham Essick in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles, California. He is the son of Walter Buchanan Essick and Ida May Crawford. He was born 11 Mar 1884 in Ellsworth, Ellsworth, Kansas and died 2 Oct 1950 at age 66 in Caruthers, Fresno, California. Children of Ida May Edwards and Edward Abraham Essick:
NotesIda May: Daughter, Ida, tells us of her mother: Ida played the piano and organ since a young girl. She was church organist when she was 14 and was given a writing desk as a gift. She was a regular church worker and a devout Methodist. She was a housewife up to the time she and her husband bought a farm in Fresno County, California, between Caruthers and Riverdale. She worked hard on the farm, where they raised alfalfa, raisin grapes and had a dairy herd. After her husband died in 1950 she sold the farm and moved in to Riverdale where she bought a house. She was in the hospital for tests because it was thought she might be borderline diabetic - and suddenly had a heart attack and passed away. Edward: Daughter, Ida, tells us of her father: Edward left school in early elementary, but educated himself. He could read and write well and could do almost anything. He soled the children's shoes, cut their hair, mended everything and was good at arithmetic. He was in both the Kansas and California National Guard; Kansas in 1905 and California from 1917 to 1920. He did a number of jobs: drove truck for a lumber company in Redondo Beach, worked on an ostrich farm in Buttomwillow, drove truck for Kern County, California and farmed his own place in Caruthers. According to his wife's journal, once when they left Buttonwillow to return to Redondo Beach, he sent the family by train and he took the horse and buggy into Bakersfield and traded it for a saddle horse and saddle and rode to Redondo Beach - there were no details of how he got from Bakersfield to Redondo, or how long it took him. In 1939 he bought the farm between Riverdale and Caruthers and raised raisin grapes, alfalfa and had dairy cattle. SourcesIda May: Birth from California Birth Records, 1905 - 1995
