Edward J. Esgar, 86, of Morris and formerly of Mazon, died Saturday morning, Oct. 29, 1994 in Morris Hospital. Born Dec. 11, 1907, in Vienna Township, he was a son of William J. and Alice Mae (Harper) Esgar. Educated in rural schools, he graduated from Mazon Township High School with the class of 1926. On May 1, 1937 he married Louise Henderson in Joliet. He welded on LSTs at the Seneca Shipyard for Chicago Bridge and Iron during World War II and then, for 33 years, he was employed with Mazon Farmers Elevator in Mazon and as branch manager in Coal City, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Park Street Congregational United Church of Christ in Mazon, Grundy County Farm Bureau and MVK Senior Citizens. He was an avid league bowler at 17-47 Bowling Alley in Dwight and at Echo Lanes in Morris. Surviving are his wife of Morris; one daughter, Nancy Crowe of Graniteville, SC; one son, Richard (Cheryl) Esgar of Mazon; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step granddaughters; four brothers, George (Edna) Esgar of Mazon, Charles (Carolyn) Esgar of Tuscola, William (Ethel) Esgar of Lockport and Paul Esgar of Mazon; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Ralph Esgar; and two sons-in-law, James McCleary and William Crowe. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the U.C. Davis and Sons Funeral Home Ltd., with the Rev. Scheryl Seymour officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
