James Wesley Cassingham was born 16 Jun 1840 in Frazeysburg, Muskingum, Ohio. He is the son of James Cassingham and Martha Oden. He died 8 May 1921 at the age of 80 in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois and is buried in the La Harpe Cemetery.

• On 4 Feb 1866, he married (1) Elizabeth Bagley Bryan in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois. Elizabeth was born 22 Mar 1839 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Jacob Bryan and Mary Bagley. She died 21 Oct 1886 at the age of 47 in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois and is buried in La Harpe Cemetery.
• On 1 Oct 1889 or 2 Oct 1887, one to three years after Elizabeth’s death, James married (2) Mary Adele Vincent in Burlington, Des Moines, Iowa. She is the daughter of Samuel C. Vincent and Mary J. Andrews. At the time of the wedding, Mary was the widow of Cowden M. Bryan, brother of James' first wife, Elizabeth. Thus James second wife was his former sister-in-law. Mary was born 24 Apr 1845 in La&nbspHarpe, Hancock, Illinois. She died in Galesburg, Knox, Illinois.

James' second wife, Mary, was the widow of Cowden Bryan, brother of James' first wife, Elizabeth.

The 1900 Census (La Harpe, Hancock, IL. p.2) shows James and Mary as having been married for 10 years. This would seem to corroborate the 1889 date for their marriage.
