Pfc. Edwin Sutton Dies in Paris Hospital

Pfc. Edwin Sutton, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sutton of Mazon, injured in an automobile accident near Paris, Ill, a week ago, died in a hospital there Friday at 5:03 p.m.

The body was brought to the Davis Funeral Home this morning where friends may call after 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Mazon Methodist church Monday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Robert Pitsch will officiate. Burial will be in Ward cemetery.

Pfc. Sutton and two companions, Gunther Steffan, 27, Lancaster, Pa., and John Roman, 29 Gary, Ind., were en route home from MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. Near Paris their car struck a truck. Sutton received head and facial injuries and had remained in a semi-conscious condition since.

Steffan and Roman were injured and the former is still a patient in the Chanute Field hospital at Rantoul, receiving treatment for a brain concussion. Roman was treated and released from the Paris hospital. Pfc. Sutton was coming home for his marriage to Miss Myrtle Myers of near Verona, scheduled for last Saturday evening..

Edwin was born Oct. 4, 1931. He was graduated from the Mazon Township High school, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force July 29, 1950. He was attached to the Headquarters and Headquarters squadron, 305th Bomb Wing (M) at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. He was a member of the Mazon Methodist church.

Surviving are his parents, his fiance and two sisters, Jennie May at home and Mrs. Mary Provance of Gardner. There are also two brothers, William of Mazon and Robert of Dayton, O.
